In the early years of the streamliner era, Rock Island and Southern Pacific were attempting to promote Arizona and the southwest as a vacation destination to rival Florida. The result of that undertaking was the Sun Belt's first streamliner and the first all-private-room (no sections) train in the West, the Arizona Limited.

Diner and Buffet-Lounge-Observation Car. Stewardess-nurse service. Evening departures every second day—only two nights en route with morning arrivals—in each direction.

The attention of patrons is directed to the facilities for transfer between the East and West afforded by the Englewood Union (Sixty-third Street) Station. The through trains of a number of Eastern lines (before entering Chicago terminals) and all Rock Island trains (after leaving La Salle Station) stop at this station.

The Arizona Limited would only operate for two full seasons. Wartime regulations issued in 1942 suspended the operation of all seasonal trains. The equipment was subsequently reassigned to other duties.
