This is the final timetable for the City of New Orleans before the train was assumed by Amtrak. It would be continued under this name and on a daytime schedule for a time. However, by November of 1971 the train would be shifted to an overnight schedule and would be rechristened the Panama Limited, after the previous IC overnight flagship. In the early '80s, though, while the train remained on the overnight schedule the name would revert to City of New Orleans thanks to the name recognition from the song written by Steve Goodman and recorded by Arlo Guthrie and others.
