In 1952 the Texas Eagle was at the peak of its game. The network of trains connected most of Texas's major cities with St. Louis and Memphis, and continuing service was available to Mexico City via the Aztec Eagle while through cars were available in the other direction to New York and Washington, DC. The train as shown here featured "Planetarium" dome coaches, which was Missouri Pacific's marketing term for what other railroads called the Vista-Dome.

Please take a note of the "Divided" coaches, listed as such in the Missouri Pacific notes (but not in the T. & P. notes). In case I need to spell it out, these coaches were "divided" into separate sections to segregate passengers by race. There are not a great deal of reminders of the segregated era in the Official Guide, and those which are there are usually couched indirectly as in this case. Perhaps we should bear it in mind that the need to employ euphemisms is one of the first signs that we may be dealing with something which is morally wrong.
