The Texas Eagles were officially launched on August 15, 1948, although MoPac had "previewed" the equipment on its predecessor train the Sunshine Special—i.e., had rushed the equipment into revenue service as soon as it was delivered from the builder rather than wait for a complete trainset to be assembled.
