Here you will find the General in the final months of its career. With negotiations for the proposed (and ultimately disastrous) merger with the New York Central well under way, by the end of the year Pennsy would decide that having two premium passenger trains operating within one to two hours of each other to the same destinations was one too many. The surviving train would retain the name of the Broadway Limited, but in all other particulars such as schedule, consist, and even the train numbers (48 and 49) it would look a whole lot more like the General.
