By September of 1960 the two trains shown here represented the last passenger service on the Katy system. The Texas Special had been re-routed to an all-Katy time card between Kansas City, Dallas, and San Antonio after the Frisco pulled out of the joint operating agreement in January 1959. My only report on the train in this time period comes from a serviceman who probably took this train from San Antonio to Dallas on his way to Denver, connecting in Dallas with Burlington's service; the fact that he made the trip without disagreeable incident with less than a one-hour layover between trains leads me to believe that Katy had largely ameliorated the timekeeping problems which I noted in the May 1957 timetable. Still, patronage continued to decline and what was left of the Texas Special would be cut back to a Kansas City-Dallas run by 1964. The train would disappear entirely in 1965.
