If the prime trains on this website are "streamliners", I guess you could call this train a "dogliner"...as in, the service improved once it was handed over to Greyhound. Actually, that's not quite fair to this train; most of the equipment (save the coaches from Lewisville to Shreveport) was air-conditioned; there was a first-class sleeper option all the way, and you could have a leisurely breakfast or dinner between Texarkana and Dallas in Cotton Belt's one and only dining car...their only other long-distance train in this time period, the Morning Star, stopped for meals on its way from St. Louis to Dallas.

Unfortunately the amenities, such as they were, were not long for this world. Sometime between March 1951 and August of 1952 the dining car service disappeared. If this was a ploy to drive away passengers, it worked; on November 1, 1952 the train would be gone for good.
