The streamlined and Diesel-powered Rocky Mountain Rocket made its debut on the overnight run between Chicago and Colorado on November 12, 1939. An editorial comment in the December 1940 Guide notes the trains first anniversary and states that in that first year of operation the train carried over 132,000 passengers.
