The Silver Meteor had been re-equipped for what would prove to be the last time (prior to Amtrak) in 1956. Since its genesis as an all-coach train in 1939, it had featured an end-of-train tavern-observation lounge for coach passengers, and this re-equipping carried on the tradition. Still, Seaboard wanted a signature car for its well-heeled first class passengers. As tight overhead clearances on the Pennsy's Northeast Corridor trackage precluded the use of dome cars, Seaboard and Pullman-Standard came up with the next best thing: The glass-roofed, mid-train "Sun Lounge" cars, which show up in this listing as the five double bedroom/lounge cars.
