In the spring of 1948 both the Missouri Pacific Lines and the Katy/Frisco team introduced new streamliners between St. Louis and major cities in Texas (see the Texas Eagle and the Texas Special on Track 9), each offering multiple through cars to the East. Taking the lion's share of that business was the Pennsylvania Railroad with this train, which was timed for a close connection with the new streamliners at St. Louis.
