El Fronterizo was the name under which this service between  Ciudad Juárez (just across the border from El Paso) and México City operated in the early 1960s.

This timetable confirms my suspicions that the N de M timetables in the Official Guide were heavily condensed. In transcribing this timetable, I also used a Spanish-language public timetable which Streamliner Memories had been kind enough to post. In the table below, where you see both a miles and a kilometers entry you are looking at an entry from the Official Guide. Where you see only a kilometerage you are seeing an entry which the Guide left out...roughly, 3 out of every four station stops. While I'm not going to go back and edit my earlier timetables, I do plan to use this resource to create some new pages from this time period which should show a more complete picture of Mexican passenger service.

I could not make heads or tails out of those cryptic notes for the León sleeper. I understood that it operated southbound in Nos. 232 and 6, but for the life of me I couldn't match the times in the footnote up against the published schedules. I turned to the Yahoo "MexList" group for help, and received a helpful translation from Todd Minsk: "“This sleeping car returns on No.232 to Irapuato where it is added to No.6 at 0117.  Passengers may remain on board at Leon until 0730 and may board at 2130 for the 2230 departure [of No.232?].”" Todd went on to comment: "So, this car was left at Leon by No.7 and then returned to Mexico on 232 and 6, but 232 was a Guanajuato-Irapuato train showing on table 6.  It isn’t clear how the car got from Leon to the Silao main line junction." However, he then spotted that two-hour stopover which No. 232 made in Silao. Since it is only 33 kilometers from Silao to León by rail, his speculation—with which I concur—is that during that stopover the engine and crew made a dash over to León to pick up the southbound sleeper and shunt it to Irapuato in time for it to be added to El Tapatio when that train arrived at 1:17 a.m. Thanks for the help, Todd and MexList!
