Less than a month after the debut of the newly streamlined Chief, another new streamliner made its debut on the Santa Fe. A Budd-built, all-stainless-steel, five car speed demon, the new all-coach El Capitan would operate on the same 39 hour 45 minute schedule as the flagship Super Chief, on the same two days a week dispatch.

RULES FOR EL CAPITAN, TRAINS 21 AND 22. Extra fare of $5.00 is charged between Chicago and Los Angeles and $3.75 between Kansas City and Los Angeles. Proportionate extra fares will apply between other points at which Trains 21 and 22 stop to take on or discharge passengers. These trains will carry only coach passengers between all regular scheduled stops excepting locally in Arizona. Baggage car space not available for handling corpses on El Capitan.
