Southern Pacific's Shasta Daylight, introduced in April of 1949, benefited from more than a decade of Daylight equipment design experience. Two trainsets with a total of twenty-nine new cars from Pullman-Standard (plus two parlor-observation cars built for regional Daylight service some years before) featured oversized picture windows in the coaches and Southern Pacific's trademark triple-unit diner/kitchen/coffee shop cars.
