By 1967 some padding and a number of new stops had been added to the schedule, but otherwise the Super Chief was holding up remarkably well. From the number of extra coaches added to both El Capitan and even the Super Chief half of the train, it's obvious that Santa Fe was expecting a busy summer travel season. Most likely with these expanded consists the trains operated separately as first and second sections.
The year 1967 is worthy of note here for two reasons. One, it was the last full summer of operation for the rail service to the Grand Canyon. (The Grand Canyon line would operate briefly in the summer of 1968, but according to the Grand Canyon Railway website the last Santa Fe passenger train would depart the Canyon in July of that year.) Secondly, it was also the last hurrah for "Meals by Fred Harvey" as a Santa Fe company slogan. In 1968 the Fred Harvey company would be purchased by Amfac Corporation and the Fred Harvey/Santa Fe partnership would come to an end.
