This is the final timetable for the North Coast Limited; it would be cancelled effective with the handover of passenger service to Amtrak on May 1, 1971. However, while the North Coast Limited's trackage was not included in Amtrak's Basic System, service would return to the route west of Minneapolis when the North Coast Hiawatha was introduced as a tri-weekly train in the early 1970s. (The "Hiawatha" moniker derived from the fact that the train's route from Chicago to Minneapolis ran over Milwaukee Road rails.) However, this service would not survive the Carter cutbacks in 1979.
