Correspondent Jack Norris provided me with the Erie's advertisement which appears below regarding their door-to-train taxicab service available to passengers boarding at Jersey City. While I wasn't able to date it precisely (see below for more info), this timetable hails from the same general era. The Lake Cities of this vintage served New York, Buffalo and Cleveland; after the war years it would be consolidated with the Midlander and extended all the way to Chicago...itself a "Lake City", of course.

Erie RR taxi service advertisement - 1 Erie taxicab service advertisement - 2

Looking at the map, it's apparent that this advertisement dates from after Erie moved their midtown Manhattan ticket office from No. 36 to No. 8 West 40th St. (which occured sometime between January 1927 and February 1933) but from before the date that the office moved to Rockefeller Center (which occurred between May 1936 and September 1938). I couldn't find any reference to this trainside taxi service in the Erie pages of any of the Official Guides that I do have in this period, so I presume it was rather short-lived. Just before the war years began, though, I see that Erie began running bus service from its Jersey City Terminal to 42nd Street and the Rockefeller Center office; this would become its primary passenger connection to and from Manhattan during the war and in the years after.
